Chin surgery, aka mentoplasty, is a surgery performed to reshape the chin by enhancing it with an implant or reducing it on the bone. The objective of this surgery is to have symmetrical facial proportion since the chin plays a big role on magnifying or minimizing the perceived size of the face and especially the nose.
In this procedure, synthetic implants are inserted to make the chin bone look more prominent, balancing the contour of the face. This surgery is carried out under local anesthesia and sedation. Its duration is 1 to 2 hours. Apart from implants, filling materials can also be used.
The surgery is ambulatory and the recovery is from 5 to 7 days. For foreign patients, they must remain in the country for 7 days after surgery. The final result is presented after the inflammatory process ends, which lasts 6-8 weeks.
